ATI Radeon 5000 Series Cards Are Great At Recovery of WiFi Passwords

ElcomSoft has released new software that accelerates the recovery of Wi-Fi passwords and password protected iPhone and iPod backups by using ATI Radeon HD 5000 series video cards. The support of ATI Radeon 5000 series video accelerators allows ElcomSoft to perform password recovery up to 20 times faster compared to Intel top of the line quad-core CPUs, and up to two times faster compared to enterprise-level NVIDIA Tesla solutions. Supporting GPU acceleration technologies offered by both major GPU manufacturers, ATI and NVIDIA, ElcomSoft offers the fastest and most cost-efficient wireless security audit solution on the market. Elcomsoft has provided us with some benchmark results of running Wireless Security Auditor software on several high-end processors and video cards that can be seen below. As you can see an ATI Radeon HD 5970 graphics card blows the other solutions out of the water with 103,000 password attempts per second! It should be noted that under the benchmark results the fine print reads: "These benchmarks are missing NVIDIA’s latest boards based on the new Fermi chipset, NVIDIA’s next generation GPU architecture. NVIDIA Tesla S2050/S2070 are claimed to surpass everything announced by NVIDIA’s competitors, but will be available only in Q2/Q3’2010." Looks like NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 480 is going to do well on this software too.

ElcomSoft Wireless Security Auditor Benchmark Results

Benchmarks performed by ElcomSoft demonstrate that ATI Radeon HD5970 accelerated password recovery works up to 20 times faster than Core i7-960, Intel’s current top of the line CPU unit. The password recovery speed of the new sub-thousand dollar video card from ATI exceeds the performance of enterprise-grade NVIDIA Tesla solutions priced at $10,000. When password recovery is concerned, ATI Radeon HD5970 provides twice the performance of NVIDIA Tesla for a fraction of the price.
