CPU Overclock:

ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme CPU Overclock

Sticking strictly with stock CPU voltage, 3.6GHz was the highest 24/7 stable overclock we were able to achieve on the Rampage 2 Extreme. This is a typical overclock for most Core i7 CPU's based on the C0 stepping. Getting a high base clock is less of a function of the motherboard as it is almost solely based on the CPU. We were able to reach a baseclock of 200MHz with full stability on our Intel Core i7 920 processor.

Memory Overclock:

Paired up with our Kingston HyperX T1 2000MHz kit, the Rampage 2 Extreme was able to reach 2126MHz at 8-8-8-24-1t timings! At the default 1.65v this is the maximum of our particular memory kit.

Memory and CPU Overclock:

Finally, it was time to get serious. Some of you out there are, for one reason or another, picking up 12GB of DDR3. I recently picked up a set to do some heavy Virtual Machine testing. I'm using a 1333MHz kit of OCZ Platinum rated at 7-7-7-20-1t and wanted to see just how high we could go before the fun ended.

In the screen shot above you can see that I was able to push 12GB of DDR3 up to 1600MHz, and at 200 base clock for an even 4GHz. All of this was done at reasonable voltages. Unfortunately, my CPU does not want to boot at much over 200 base clock, and also I could not get it to the desktop at 4.2GHz with just 6GB. Despite hitting the wall fairly early on I am extremely impressed with this board and being able to boot at these settings.
