Corsair's 2133MHz Memory Kit - Fastest In The World
Last month on July 1st, Corsair Memory announced the immediate availability of a new DOMINATOR DDR3 memory kit running at 2133MHz. The launch of this memory kit made it the world’s fastest DDR3 memory solution in production volume, a title that it still holds over a month later. The DOMINATOR DDR3 memory kit, TW3X2G2133C9DF, is only available in a 2GB kit due to how tough it is to get memory kits to run at these extremely high clock speeds. In fact this memory kit is so fast there is only one chipset that it has been designed to operate on! The chipset that this memory kit was designed to was the NVIDIA 790i SLI Ultra, but it will work at lesser speeds on other chipsets as you will read about later on.
The TW3X2G2133C9DF memory kit includes the Corsair Airflow fan to ensure that the modules are nice and cool when operating at 2133MHz with 2.0 Volts of power running through them. The Corsair Airflow does not come standard with every memory kit, so this is a nice addition that would otherwise cost you $19.99 plus shipping.
The Corsair Airflow needs to be put together, but that is a quick and painless experience that is no big deal. Once it's assembled you will be ready to use the Corsair TW3X2G2133C9DF memory kit. This 2133MHz speed kit goes by the speed rating PC3-17066, in case you are wondering what the speed rating on this kit. I remember buying my first PC-2100 (266MHz) kit back in 2001 during my college years. If someone told me in 2008 we would have 2133MHz memory kits I would have laughed!
The TW3X2G2133C9DF memory kit uses Samsung based memory ICs. The majority of the other modules are using Micron memory ICs. That gives this kit a leg up over other companies as it is offering the latest in memory ICs. This specific memory kit has been verified to operate at 2133MHz at latencies of 9-9-9-24 at 2.00V VDIMM by Corsair, but tighter timings can be had at lower clock frequencies if that is what you are after.
