The Palit Retail Box

Our Radeon HD 4870 X2 graphics cards came from Palit, but it should be noted that they are reference designs by AMD and were built by a third party. Palit’s Radeon HD 4870X2 has a core frequency of 750 MHz and 2 GB of cutting edge GDDR5 memory at 3.6 GHz. Palit informed us that they will be producing cards based off the AMD reference design, but will be eventually coming out with their own design. Palit is working on producing a new Radeon HD 4870 X2 PCB from the ground up and it will have a number of interesting features like dual-fans, triple heat-pipes and different components.

For now we will be using the reference cards provided to us, which are pictured above.

This is a rendered image of what the real shipping product will look like from Palit! Let's take a look at what GPU-Z says about these cards.

This card has a much newer BIOS version than the one we looked at in the preview last month! GPU-Z also reported the GPU temperature as being 66C, which was confirmed by CCC to be roughly the idle temperature of the card. Since we have already covered the layout of the card in the preview let's take a look at the benchmarks.
