Age of Conan

Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures is a fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed by the Norwegian computer, video game developer company Funcom for PC and the Xbox 360. The full release of the game for North America was May 20, 2008 and for Europe May 23, 2008 for the PC version. The DreamWorld graphics engine was developed by Funcom circa 2000. When Funcom began developing Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, the company reviewed its existing technology base and decided to focus on the further evolution of their proprietary DreamWorld engine as opposed to licensing a third-party engine like many online RPG companies do.

We benchmarked Age of Conan at 1920x1200 and 1280x1024 with high overall quailty settings with 8x Anti-Alias quality.

The game defaults to Shader model 2.0, which doesn't look that great so we enabled Shader model 3.0 under the advanced menu. The Anisotropic filtering quality was set to the max, which was 16. This means the game was running 8xAA and 16xAF, which looks really great!

Benchmark Results: Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures was a last minute addition to the benchmark test group and it was tough to benchmark since you have to do it online and the world is never identical twice in a row. We tried to benchmark the game in the city of Tortage, a port city filled with the corrupt guards of the Red Hand. We also had some issues trying to change resolutions on the Diamond Radeon HD 3870 X2, so we were stuck to 1920x1200 as the game would crash when the resolution was changed. All of these high end graphics cards did great at 1280x1024, but the GeForce 8800 GTX was starting to show signs of aging at 1920x1200. The PNY GeForce GTX 280 had no problems running 1920x1200 and was able to average more than 50FPS while we ran around the pre-determined path.
