This review was just a little bit different, as we usually do not have to deal with two operating systems, let alone one of them running in a virtual machine. Overall, the results do show a boost in performance. Take a look...
Looking at the left side of the chart, we see that when we were running OSX and the virtual machine running Vista, that we had a significant boost in performance. Every test that we ran scored better with the 3GB upgrade than with the original 2GB kit. Even our Photoshop score and xbench scores went up with no virtual machine running in the background. Having the extra ram when running a virtual machine certainly proved to help.
On the Windows Vista side of things (the right side) we can see that the upgrade from 2GB to 3GB of ram did not make that much of a difference. Of course, the more applications we would have been running the more we would have seen the benefit of the extra ram.
Beyond the scores, and I know this is going to sound extremely subjective, there is a noticeable difference in both OSX when running a virtual machine, and a noticeable difference when running Vista in Bootcamp with this upgrade. The system responds faster, and does not have near the lags that I was getting with only 2GB in my system. I would think that that would be confirmed by most Mac users out there that do more than just surf the net and check email.
