ECS Factory Tour - How A Motherboard Is Made
It's not everyday that one gets to go to China to see how a motherboard is made, but recently Legit Reviews was able to take a peak inside two ECS Elitegroup factories in Shenzhen, China to see how a motherboard is made from the ground up.
The life of a motherboard begins in the PCB Production Unit, which is where life starts for all of the motherboards that ECS produces.
Here we see John C. Liu from Golden Elite Technology (Shen Zhen) Ltd. giving the media the dog and pony show on why ECS is the number one choice for motherboards. He is the plant manager at Golden Elite Technology, which is the largest ECS owned factory with over 4,000 workers. The numbers of workers will be over 8,000 once the next phase of development happens, which is some serious man power. No wonder ECS has the ability to put out two million motherboards a month at this single factory!
The 'Operators' of the plant live and work on the same campus in what are called dorms. These dorms have community bathrooms and at least four people per sleeping area. With the operators working close to the factory it makes it easy for the line to run 24 hours a day thanks to two twelve hour shifts that go from 8 to 8. That means the average operator works 72 hours a week on the production line for just ~$170 US a month. When you do the math that means they make less than 60 cents an hour, but keep in mind they get free living and subsidized meals and apperal. This is actually a good level of pay for many of the workers that came from rural China where the jobs are far and few with even lower pay.
