Since fewer than ten GeForce 8800 Ultra graphics cards were sent out to reviewers we are stuck posting NVIDIA's performance numbers for today, but be sure to check back in a week or two as we will have our own numbers by then. This is a paper launch anyway as the GeForce 8800 Ultra will not be available in stores until May 15th.
Please be sure to click the excel data below if you want to be able to better read it.
Overall the NVIDIA data is nice to look at as it shows the performance difference between an 8800 GTX and 8800 Ultra, but also at the same time the performance decrease Windows Vista users notice when moving over from Windows XP. From the internal benchmark numbers it seems that the Ultra is 10.7% faster on average when compared to an 8800 GTX, but the real question boils down to the price.
Numerous GeForce 8800 GTX graphics cards can be found for $524.99-$529.99, which is $300 less than the $829 GeForce 8800 Ultra. The 8800 Ultra costs 36% more and has a performance improvement of 10.7% over the 8800 GTX. Will consumers cough up 36% more for something 10% faster? Only time will tell and since NVIDIA has a product that can't be beat by anything that ATI has on the market they have the ability to keep pushing prices up. We will be able to have a better conclusion once we get some GeForce 8800 Ultra's in our hands, but till then we wanted to bring you what we could now on this new flagship part from NVIDIA!
