DarkStar One delivers fast-paced action within a vast and authentic universe, spectacular graphics, freedom of choice, a gripping story and the power to save the federal galaxy from its nemesis. In the demo you will have access to two clusters (groups of solar systems). You may explore the solar systems within these clusters with relative freedom. It is your choice how you act, whether as a pirate, a bounty hunter, a trader, or your own combination of the careers on offer. However, bear in mind that your actions will have consequences... Exploring the entire demo content provides approximately one and a half hours of gameplay. There is no time limit, allowing you more scope for discovering additional features and hunting down ships.
Ascaron announced that their space action game Darkstar One is scheduled for an August 11th launch in the UK and for August 14th in the US.
This is one of the most challenging games in our test. I'd have to say that for my tastes that 25fps would be the playable limit for this game and only at one resolution were either of these two systems able to meet that. In order to get playable settings with AA you'll be forced to lower some of the in-game options. On paper the 7600GS SLI system is the faster of the two, but it's really a wash as the difference is not perceptible.
Here we have a serious dogfight, by forcing Alternate Frame Rendering on for the X1900GT's we see that they are able to hang pretty close to the XXX 7950GX2, even taking a win in the lowest settings for the mid-end systems. The 7950FX2 scales incredibly well here.
The X1900XT CrossFire system isn't able to hold off the 7900GTX SLI once the resolution and AA settings hit the max. Again we see excellent scaling on the Nvidia part.
