Overclocking The HyperX PC2-6400LL Memory
Our previous PC2-6400 memory kit from Kingston was unable to run CL4 or CL3 timings and hit 900MHz at 2.3V. We had higher hopes with this kit of memory, but at the same time we were unsure of what to expect as the Intel 975XBX motherboard that we did the testing on only goes up to 2.2V on the memory. Giving overclocking a shot we were impressed with the results. The Low Latency kit of memory was able to hit 921MHz at it's rated 4-4-4-12 timings!
We tried getting the modules to run at CL3 timings, but even with 2.2V we were unable to get the system to post. It looks like these Elpida IC's will operate at CL4 timings just fine, but forget CL3 for the time being. We then went the other direction and tried out CL5 timings to find the same performance levels that we saw with CL4 timings. With CL5 and CL4 topping out at around 920MHz I feel that we are voltage limited on the motherboard we were testing on. With a mild bump in voltage we were able to easily get both kits of the Kingston HyperX PC2-6400 Low Latency memory running over 900MHz.
