Test Setup

For testing purposes I used the following system:

Test System:

AMD DDR1 Memory Test Platform

Component

Brand/Model

Live Pricing

Processor

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

Motherboard

DFI NF4 Ultra-D

Video Cards

ATI X850XT

Hard Drive

Seagate Barracuda 7200.7

Cooling

Vapochill Micro

Power Supply

OCZ PowerStream 600W

Operating System

Windows XP Professional

I use my DFI board for all of my testing, mainly because no other board available comes close to it for tweaking or overclocking, especially when it comes to memory testing. While some people have reported problems with the combination of DFI boards and Corsair memory, I have never experienced any issues myself. Part of the issue undoubtedly comes from the incredible amount of memory adjustments that can be made within the DFI NF4's BIOS.

* All testing was done on a fresh install of Windows XP Professional using the latest drivers for all components and DFI's 623-3 BIOS. The sytem was run using the following settings to prevent other components from affecting the memory performance

  • CPU set to x9 multiplier
  • HTT set to x3
  • CPU Voltage set to 1.4V with Special VID set to 110%
  • HTT Voltage was set to 1.3V
  • Chipset Voltage was setto 1.6V

Testing included:

  • Sisoft Sandra Memory Bandwidth
  • Everest 2.0 Home Edition Memory Read, Write, and Latency
  • Super Pi Mod 1.4 to 1 million
  • Sciencemark 2.0
  • Doom 3 timedemo 1
  • Far Cry Benchmark V 1.4

When it came to testing for stability, I considered the memory to be stable if it would complete three passes of Memtest86 1.55 without any errors and a single pass of Super Pi to 32M places. Each kit was benchmarked at its rated speed and timings, then again using the maximum overclock I could achieve with 100% stability.
