Final Thoughts and Conclusions

The XFX 7870 Black Edition was built to perform well under the most demanding modern games while not completely breaking the bank. Though, as of late it seems that the XFX 7870 Black Edition is getting a little harder to find as XFX is replacing it with the GHz edition cards, so if you're able to find one online or locally you may want to take advantage of it and pick it up! The XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB is 50MHz slower than the card we reviewed today, but you can find it for $289.99 at Newegg with a lifetime warranty through XFX. This is not a bad price and competitive with other brands that offer AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz edition graphics cards.

Overclocking the XFX 7870 was enjoyable to say the least. We were able to get an impressive 24% overclock out of our sample card with just a small amount of voltage tweaking. For those of you who don't want to deal with voltage control, we were able to get a 13% overclock on stock volts. In game there was a noticeable difference in performance, which scaled well with our overclocked settings.

As far as the aesthetics of the card are concerned we found the 7870 Black Edition to look just like all the other XFX Black Edition cards have as of late. This isn't to say that we were unhappy with the appearance of the card as we found it to look very nice. The rubberized soft touch finish was a nice touch and added a nice bit of contrast against the brushed aluminum body of the shroud. The black PCB was a nice touch in our rig. I couldn't imagine ruining this card with a PCB that was perhaps red or blue. The Double Dissipation and Ghost Thermal Technology really performed well, and ensured that our card stayed nice and cool throughout it's usage.

Legit Bottom Line: The XFX Radeon HD 7870 Black Edition is an excellent performer and and is priced well to boot. The added peace of mind of the XFX lifetime warranty is just icing on the cake!
