SATA III 6Gbps Performance Testing
HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.
The SATA6 Testing was done using Crucial RealSSD C300 256Gb SATA6 SSD drive.
Benchmark Results: The ASUS Sabertooth 990FX brought some serious hurt to our other boards in the SATA III 6Gbps testing today. The Average Read for the Sabertooth was an impressive 323.77MB/s while the next closest board was the ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 with only 241.73MB/s! The Average Write speeds were closer, though the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX was still ~10% faster than the ASRock 890FX Deluxe4. The Sabertooth 990FX had an Average Write of 198.17MB/s while the ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 averaged 180.93MB/s and the MSI 990FXA-GD80 had an Average Write of 168.77MB/s.
HD Tune Pro 4.01 is an extended version of HD Tune which includes many new features such as write benchmark, secure erasing, AAM setting, folder usage view, disk monitor, command line parameters and file benchmark.
Benchmark Results: HD Tune's results are eerily similar to the results in HD Tach. The ASUS Sabertooth 990FX had an Average Read of 309.43MB/s while the ASRock averaged 226.4MB/s and the MSI 990FXA-GD80 averaged only 189.33MB/s. Once again the Average Writes were closer, though the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX was still in the lead. The Average Write for the ASUS Sabertooth 990FX was 219.93MB/s while the ASRock 890FX Deluxe4 pulled an average of 209.67MB/s while the MSI 990FXA-GD80 was left behind with only 189.33MB/s.
