ASUS Radeon HD 6870 Video Card Overclocking
So now it's time to see how far we can push this card before it gives out on us. I started out small going for an overclock of 950 MHz on the core as always and I left the memory at its stock 1050. I had no problems, so I decided to push a little further and I took it up to 975 MHz with the memory at 1050 MHz just to be safe. Again, I had no problems. So, then I decided to see if I could get over 1 GHz. As you can see from the screen shot below, I did. I was able to reach 1034 MHz on the core and 1050 MHz on the memory with the voltage bumped up to 1.275 Volts.
For all of the overclocking duties I employed the use of the ASUS Smart Doctor utility as this utility allowed me to adjust the voltage settings as well as the GPU core and the memory clock speeds.
I ran the Aliens vs. Predator Benchmark to see what the difference would be with an overclock that was right at the 1034 Mhz mark. As you can see, there was a noticeable 3 FPS difference from its stock setting of 915 MHz at 1920x1080, which is not too terribly much for an 118 MHz overclock. I think I expected more frames than that. Even though I tried to push the card further it just wouldn't budge no matter what settings I changed. Below you can see the results of the overclocking compared to the stock settings of the ASUS Radeon HD 6870 Direct CU Video Card.
