Introducing the RunCore Pro V 120GB SSD
RunCore is not exactly a household name in the industry as they have only been around since 2007, evolving from a company that focused on military product design. According to their website, they released their first SSD in September of 2007 so they've been in the SSD business just as long or longer than other more well known SSD makers. Their most recent consumer SSD is the fifth generation in their "Pro" line and aptly named as the Pro V. We received the 120GB (RCP-V-S251B-MC) version to run it through our usual battery of tests.
The drive itself is gorgeous with a brushed aluminum shell and the RunCore logo and name engraved on the front. If you have a case that shows off your internal hardware, this would fit right in with an elegant look. Performance-wise, the drive is capable of read/write speeds of 260MB/s which is what we would expect to see from a SandForce drive.
Originally available in 2010 in capacities of 50GB, 100GB and 200GB, the firmware and product line has been refreshed to reduce the overprovisioning and offer capacities of 60GB, 120GB and 240GB. All can be found online at RunCore's store for $189.99, 319.99 and $549.99 respectively. I could only locate this drive at a few obscure online retailers which may be why their brand is not so prominent.

In the box, in addition to the drive we find a USB 2.0 enclosure, a USB 2.0 data cable, a small screwdriver with screws (for the enclosure), a SATA II to USB 2.0 connector card and a couple of RunCore stickers. Included on the drive is also software for data migration - Acronis Migrate Easy (PC) and Carbon Copy Cloner (Mac). The drive carries a two year warranty thought the life cycle is rated for five years.
The back is rather unremarkable with a sticker containing the usual model number and legal information affixed to the center. Let's move inside the drive.
