Prolimatech Super Mega CPU Cooler

Prior to this review I had never used a Prolimatech cooler. I have had heard many things, all good, about the Megahalems coolers, so I went into this review with some pretty high expectations. I was not disappointed in any way. Everything about the Super Mega is top notch. It is a solidly built cooler that performs very well. All the parts and accessories are very nice and I think the mounting system is the biggest and beefiest I have seen to date.

Some may say that for a cooler carrying a price tag over $70 it should come with a fan. Well, the Super Mega is designed to run with either a 120mm or 140mm fan. So it leaves the choice of fan up to the end user. Unlike some other companies that don't provide fans with their coolers, Prolimatech at least gives performance speed recommendations on what fans they suggest.

If I have to pick a downside to the Super Mega it is its weight. The Super Mega comes in at a 945.3g (hair over 2lbs) and that is without fans. Throw in a pair of 120mm fans, or even a pair of 140mm fans, and the weight can really get up there. So if you're worried about a heavy cooler messing up your motherboard or the socket, then the Super Mega is not for you. The upside is the mounting system for the Super Mega is downright overkill, but it does the job very well and doesn't bow the board or allow the cooler to move around.

At this time I was only able to locate the Super Mega at two online shops: Newegg for $84.99 plus shipping, and at Frozen CPU for $78.99 plus shipping. This puts the Super Mega in the high end air category and in competition with coolers like the Noctua NH-D14 and the Thermalright Venomous-X. The Super Mega could also give some lower end water kits a run for their money. It should also be noted that the Prolimatech Super Mega comes backed by a two year warranty should an issue in build material happens to pop up.

Legit Bottom Line: The Prolimatech Super Mega is a solid performing CPU cooler that looks good and performs great.
