Final Thoughts & Conclusions
The SilverStone SST-HDDBOOST is a very simple device once you read just the first couple pages of the manual, being practically PnP in a set it and forget it type of manner. The HDDBOOST gives any hard drive the boot times of an SSD without sacrificing hard drive capacity, write wear on the SSD or the complications of having to change file paths when you would run programs off a secondary hard drive.
One of the best features of the SST-HDDBOOST is that you are not limited to any SSD. You can choose whatever solid state drive you would like and feel the benefits of either highest performance or lowest cost as all you need for an SSD is enough to house your operating system and not a file more. It's all in the limitless options; you could make a new 2TB drive as fast as an SSD, or just update an old installation to amazing boot speeds with minimum effort -- all up to you. That is the main reason consumers opt for an SSD after all, because they are sick of always waiting for their operating system to load.
This little accessory is priced well at $45 shipped after $5 rebate and I would certainly give it a look if I wanted an easy way to improve boot times because this allows you to get a less expensive SSD anyway! One thing that has me curious is the warranty as SilverStone makes no mention of a warranty for this, not that I expect it to ever fail as it is a very simple device.
SilverStone has created a unique device that works flawlessly, allowing optimum simplicity with a great performance boost using even the most inexpensive SSD's. Silverstone also recently posted beta firmware which enables S.M.A.R.T function as well so there is really nothing lacking with this accessory!
Legit Bottom Line: The SilverStone SST-HDDBOOST is a one-of-a-kind device that cuts boot times on any HDD without any sacrifices, is incredibly easy to set up and without affecting any data on your original hard drive. I cannot think of a better way to spend $44.99 for a system of any age than this!
