Power Consumption

For testing power consumption, we took our test system and plugged it into a Kill-A-Watt power meter. For idle numbers, we allowed the system to idle on the desktop for 15 minutes and took the reading. For load numbers we measured the peak wattage used by the system while running the OpenGL benchmark FurMark 1.8.2 at 1920x1200 resolution.

Total System Power Consumption Results

Power Consumption Results: The total board power for the GeForce GTX 460 1GB video card is 160W, while the 768MB model is 150W. Our testing showed that at the wall our entire system drew ~21W more power with the 1GB card installed. What was really interesting though is that while the GeForce GTX 460 was slighty faster than last generations GeForce GTX 260 Core 216 video card, it was much more power efficient.  The GeForce GTX 460 1GB used nearly 30W less power at load and 10W less at idle! Not bad performance numbers when it comes to power consumption either!
