SATA 6Gbps Testing

AMD SB850 South Bridge Performance (SATA 6Gb/s):

HD Tune 3.50 Benchmark Results

Benchmark Results:  Using the same Seagate XT 2TB Hard Drive (ST32000641AS) hard drive for testing the USB performance we used it again tested the two SATA controllers on the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H motherboard. We quickly found that the AMD SB850 chipset  with its ability to do SATA 6Gbps was by far superior. The Gigabyte SATA2 chip is ideal for your optical drives and things of that nature, but for performance hard drives it will limit your performance. The Gigabyte SATA2 chip was unable to to reach 125MB/s transfer speeds, but the AMD SB850 had no problem going above this. The SB850 also had twice the burst rate performance and that is amazing.
