A-DATA Nobility S805 Performance
We put the A-DATA Nobility S805 drive through the usual battery of tests to see what you can expect in terms of performance. It was at this point where we were surprised to see that the drive features no LED to display when the drive is in the process of performing reads/writes. This isn't too big of a deal if you are careful about virtually ejecting the device first within OS, but careless users could find themselves with missing or corrupt data because they removed the drive at a critical point.
On the ATTO benchmark, we see very consistent read and write results throughout the 16kb to 8192kb portion of the test. While the reads look very good, hitting less than 10MB/s on writes is a little disappointing. Personally, I'd like to see writes higher but I'll concede that this drive is not marketed as high performance.
Moving on over to the CrystalDiskMark benchmark, we see the findings are on par with ATTO. The writes are topping out at under 7MB/s and the reads doing a nice job of breaking the 30MB/s mark.
For good measure we also ran a file benchmark test using HD Tune Pro. Unsurprisingly, the other benchmarks didn't mislead us as this graph shows. The reads far outpace the writes and again, I'd like to see this gap narrowed with a bit more added to the writes for a drive this capacity. However, most activity on thumb drives for typical use is focused on the reads and not writes, so unless you are copying over very large files, it won't be a problem.
