The ECS GeForce GT 240
ECS is sometimes overlooked as a graphics card vendor, but in the past we have seen some great value from their video cards. Today we are taking a look at their GeForce GT 240 video card to see how much gaming performance you can get at the sub $100 price point.
The ECS GeForce GT 240 offers all the latest technology available on the NVIDIA side of things, such as CUDA, OpenCL, and Direct Compute APIs available in Windows 7, HDMI 1.3a support, 128-bit floating point High Dynamic-Range (HDR) Lighting, Dual 400 MHz RAMDACs, as well as GigaThread, Lumenex, PhysX and 3D Vision Technologies from NVIDIA
Our ECS Geforce GT 240 is, for the most part, a reference model GT 240. Model number NGT240-512QI-F: it has a core clock of 550MHz, Shader clock of 1340MHz, and the memory comes in at 1700MHz on a 512MB frame buffer. The one departure is that ECS has outfitted this video card with a high performance Arctic Cooling heat sink which helps keep the sound down, as well as the heat.
There really isn't much to be seen on the back side of the card aside from the retention screws. Overall it's a clean PCB layout. You may have noticed that the ECS GeForce GT 240 does not have an external PCI-e power connector. This is a very efficient video card that requires just a 300W power supply to run.
On the I/O end, we have HDMI, D-Sub/VGA, and a dual link DVI connection. The HDMI connector can do HDMI 1.3a, which is ideal for those looking to build an Home Theater PC.
