If you didn't catch it, last year I reviewed the Koolance CPU-LN2 which perhaps should have been called the CPU-NotforLN2butgreatforDryIce. The original CPU-LN2 was more or less a bored out copper slug with very little in terms of surface area or design. Thankfully Koolance went back to the drawing board and shipped me one of their CPU-LN2 Rev2 liquid nitrogen and dry ice pots. Once again we have an exclusive first look at Koolance's latest CPU-LN2. I don't want to give away too much on the first page but let's just say it is finally worth the term LN2 in its name.
You remember the chef Emeril? Well if you don't you'll still get this. BAM! Surface area! The CPU-LN2 Rev2 is an exercise in excess, if it could be drilled out and threaded it was. Just for comparison below I have included an image of the original CPU-LN2. Nice difference, right?
Now I may appear to be discounting the original CPU-LN2 so don't get me wrong, it was like a gateway drug suckering more people into big time overclocking. However, it was also kind of like that little Thanksgiving turkey you made for your mother in 1st grade by covering your hand in paint and slapping it on a sheet of paper. Sure, it looked kind of like a turkey but if held upside down it might also look like an elephant. The CPU-LN2 Rev2 on the other hand is as though Koolance spent a few years in art school and picked up a thing or two outside of the partying and "networking". We'll get into the results later but the base of the CPU-LN2 Rev2 just looks loads more functional versus the original.
Check out that machining. Even if this pot isn't able to replace my K|ngp|n F1EE it'll make an incredible paper weight and coffee table decoration. I once again have to commend Koolance for nickle plating their CPU-LN2, you can't tell but I've used it twice already and poured around 20 liters of LN2 through it with no affect on the finish.
