The ATI Radeon HD 5770

ATI Radeon HD 5770 Video Card Front

The Radeon HD 5770 features a dual slot cooler that looks very similar to that of the Radeon HD 5870 and Radeon HD 5850.  The PCB of the Radeon HD 5770 is 8.1875" in length, which makes it nearly three inches shorter than the Radeon HD 5870. At over 11" in length the Radeon HD 5870 is a monster card, so it is nice to see that the Radeon HD 5700 series will easily fit in mid-tower chassis.

ATI Radeon HD 5770 Video Card Back

The back of the Radeon HD 5770 has a metal plate support bracket on it for the GPU cooler and you can see four of the GDDR5 memory IC's that make up the 1GB frame buffer found on the card.  The yellow sticker has the serial number on it in case the card ever needs to be RMA'd, so it is pretty bare and boring as you can see from the image above.

ATI Radeon HD 5770 Video Card CrossFire

ATI CrossFire will be supported via the two interconnects located on the top right of the card as you can see from the image above. On the right motherboard you will be able to run up to four of these graphics cards from CrossFire X.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Video Card

The Radeon HD 5770 graphics card has a pair of dual-link DVI-I outputs along with DisplayPort and HDMI outputs. You can run a D-Sub output with an adapter. All of the hot air from the cooling fan exhausts out the small vent hole on the back of the card and the little slots just in front of the CrossFire interconnects. The Radeon HD 5770 supports ATI Eyefinity for multi-monitor gaming, but be sure to have one monitor that features DisplayPort or have an expensive adapter ready. Here is a list of 11 DisplayPort LCD panels if you are considering buying one.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Video Card 6-pin PCIe Power Connectors

The Radeon HD 5770 has one 6-pin PCI-E power connectors on it that is required for operation. The 6-pin connector is located inside one of the vent holes, which might be a PITA for those with fat fingers. We told AMD that this might be an issue to consumers and they commented that most end users only install the card once and only take it out to replace the card years later.  That is true for most computer users, but some of us enthusiasts remove our graphics cards all the time!  A 450W or larger power supply is recommended by AMD and a list of suggested power supply units can be found here. If you want to run CrossFire a power supply of at least 600W that has two 6-pin connectors is recommended.

Sapphire Radeon HD 5770 Video Card GDDR5 IC

Our reference Radeon HD 5770 came with Hynix H5GQ1H24ADR GDDR5 SDRAM installed on it. The speed rating on these IC's is T2C, which means they are rated at 2.5GHz by Hynix under normal power and operating temperatures. This is interesting as both the Radeon HD 5750 and 5770 graphics cards feature the same memory components.
