Quick Test and Final Thoughts
CPU Temperature Testing With a Case Fan on a CPU Cooler?
For a quick test to see how my CPU temps would be affected I tried using the NF-S12B FLX in a manner other than directed on my NH-U12P cooler. You can see in the results what Noctua was saying about the higher static pressure fans needing to be used on coolers with close fin designs. With the NF-S12B the CPU temps went up, just slightly, but enough that it would make a difference over time.
Temperature Testing With the NH-S12B FLX as a Case Fan
Now let's see how the NH-S12B FLX performs when used as a case fan in my test system. Now my test case is the Ultra M998, and I don’t know what the rating is for the rear fan. What I did notice is that the Noctua fan is quieter then the Ultra fan. As you can see from my temp readings above the overall ambient temperature went down 2 degrees. I used the Intel desktop control panel to get the temperature readings from my Intel DX58SO motherboard.
Noctua has made another very nice fan. The Noctua NF-S12B FLX fans are insanely quiet while moving a fair amount of air; aside from the color (pssst Noctua can we get one in black?), I have nothing bad to say about the fans.
Since we first reviewed a Noctua product they have gotten much more popular and have become one of the leaders in ultra low noise fans. The main benefit of this is that more e-tailers are carrying the Noctua line, which in turn means it’s easier to get your hands on the stuff. Google Shopping has the new NH-S12B FLX case fan for as little as $19.99 plus shipping. This may seem high priced for a case fan for some, but worth every penny for the sound of silence.
Legit Bottom Line: If you’re in the market for some new case fans that are stupid quiet, then Noctua has you covered with the NH-S12B FLX.
