Sandra 2009 & HD Tune
Sandra 2009 Memory BandwidthThe Sisoft Sandra 2009 benchmark utility just came out recently and we have started to include it in our benchmarking. With Sandra 2009 you can now easily compare the performance of the tested device with its speed and its (published) power (TDP)! Sandra XII SP2 also has SSE4 (Intel) and SSE4A (AMD) benchmark code-paths, which is great for those of you testing next-generation AMD & Intel chips.
The memory bandwidth scores on the MSI Wind are also consistent with the Atom N270 processor platform scores we have seen so far in our netbook reviews.
HDTune is a free benchmark that measures the disk's transfer rates, access time, burst rate, and CPU utilization when reading from the disk.
Editor's Note: MSI sent us the MSI Wind U100-641US notebook that, which was basically an upgraded MSI Wind U100-002US that is now discontinued. The only changes between the two modules is the hard drive capacity. The MSI U100-641US should come with a 160GB hard drive, but for some reason MSI forgot to upgrade the hard drive in their loaner netbook test system. Due to this the hard drive that we have for testing is the 80GB model that originally came in the MSI Wind U100-002US. The MSI Wind U100-641US uses a larger 5400RPM hard drive, but performance should not be drastically different since they have the same spindle speed and cache.
