WD My Book World Edition II Review

As previously noted the new My Book World Edition II network storage systems are available
now in 2 TB and 4 TB capacities. Today, we are going to be taking a closer look at the My Book World Edition II dual-drive storage system in the 2 TB (model #WDH2NC20000)
configuration. This NAS drive has an MSRP of $399.99 USD and should be more popular than the 4 TB model due to pricing alone.

Inside the box we found an installation CD with software and the user manual on it, an ethernet cable, AC adapter, and a quick install guide. The My Book World Edition came wrapped in plastic to protect its finish and was ready to be installed as the drives are already inside.

WD My Book World Edition II Review

The My Book World Edition II has a vertical line on the front that lights up and glows during use. This design looks much cleaner than the older models that had the concentric circles on the front. The front and sides are a glossy and the top, bottom, and rear are a vented plastic as you can see in the picture above. It is clearly designed to be placed on a bookshelf or desktop! The design is not stackable and the only rubber feet on the device are on the bottom, so laying it on the side might might look weird. The NAS is fanless and it is not easily user serviceable should something go wrong. If something does go wrong you can sleep well knowing it comes with a three year warranty.

On the back the My Book World Edition II you will find the power button, reset button, and three connections: gigabit ethernet, USB, and power. There is also a Kensington security lock located on the back as well, which is a nice touch. The USB port is used to add additional storage via an external USB device should the need ever arise.

Let’s take a look inside to see what hard drives are inside!
