Temperature & Power Consumption

The gaming performance on a graphics card is the most important factor in buying a card, but you also need to be concerned about the noise, temperature and power consumption numbers.

Sapphire Pulse Radeon 5500 XT 4GB Temperatures:

Sapphire Pulse Radeon 5500 XT 4GB

At idle we were sitting at around 36C at idle and after gaming for about an hour we were running at 63C on the GPU temperature with the ‘hot spot’ reaching 78C. The memory temperature was reported as reaching 68C. The fans were running around 1230 RPM at full gaming load and were pretty quiet and aren’t heard over the test systems other cooling fans.

Power Consumption

For testing power consumption, we took our test system and plugged it into a Kill-A-Watt power meter. For load numbers we ran Rainbow Six Siege at 1440P and recorded the peak power number while the in-game benchmark was running. This is done to ensure the results are repeatable. We are dropping our idle numbers as all the cards are 1-2 Watts off of 53W at idle.

With the Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 5500 XT 4GB card in the system, we had a total system power draw of 229 Watts while playing Rainbow Six Siege at 2560×1440 over an extended period of time. Solid peak power numbers and that would be the lowest number of the ten cards that we have recently tested!

Let’s try overclocking the Sapphire Radeon RX 5500 XT graphics card!
