AMD had to figure out a way to catch up to NVIDIA for the high-end desktop graphics market as NVIDIA was starting to pull away. The new RDNA 2 graphics architecture on Big Navi appears to be just want the doctor ordered and now all of a sudden the AMD Radeon RX 6800 and Radeon RX 6800 XT are trading blows with the brand new NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3070 and 3080 cards in pretty every benchmark and game title. This was no small feat to pull off over 50% performance-per-watt gains, but they did it and are once again competitive with NVIDIA on the high-end card.
The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is indeed able to challenge the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 just like the promised in real-world game titles. Then you have the AMD Radeon RX 6800 and that card to usually performs better than the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070. That is to be expected though as the AMD Radeon RX 6800 is priced $79 mode than the GeForce RTX 3070, so it better perform better!
Once you turn on ray tracing though you can see where AMD must continue to improve. Right now their ray tracing capabilities are behind NVIDIA and that is before you factor in massive performance benefits from NVIDIA’s DLSS technology. AMD is working on a solution similar to DLSS, but it was not ready for launch and we are not sure when it will be coming out.
AMD has done amazing work to get the Radeon RX 6800 series cards to be this impressive. AMD has managed to deliver solid comebacks on both the CPU and GPU side here in 2020. But, they aren’t done yet as they still have the more powerful AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT coming to market. Hopefully AMD has made enough of these cards to fulfill demand as gamers that are looking to upgrade will need cards on the market to buy!
This is clearly our top recommendation for any Radeon desktop graphics card!
Legit Bottom Line: The AMD Radeon RX 6800 series is no joke and ready to challenge the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30 series cards!
