Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe 4.0 1TB SSD Review

Final Thoughts & Conclusions

This is the third drive by Sabrent that we have reviewed in 2020 and all of the Rocket series drives have been solid. The Sabrent Rocket 4.0 is their flagship drive and it is indeed a beast. Our AMD X570 test platform managed to get the Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB drive to 5.0 GB/s read and 4.4 GB/s write in CrystalDiskMark 7. Those are impressive sequential read/write performance numbers and the drive does extreme well in workloads that rely on sequential file transfers.

When it came to Random 4K performance the beefy Phison E16 controller leaves a bit to be desired as it would have been great to see faster speeds there. This is one of the reasons that the Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 was able to win some benchmarks and then finish behind older PCIe 3.0 drives in others. Regardless, the performance numbers will be mighty appealing to AMD Ryzen owners that might be looking for a PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD to go with their new system build. Being able to show off insane 5 GB/s sequential read performance numbers in CrystalDiskMark and ATTO Disk Benchmark will be more than enough motivation for some people to buy this drive.

Sabrent Rocket NVMe PCIe 4.0

The Sabrent Rocket 4.0 drive that we reviewed today is sold under part number SB-ROCKET-NVMe4-1TB and can purchased from Amazon for $189.99 shipped. That makes it the lowest priced Phison E16 based 1TB drive that we’ve come across. It also comes with amazing packaging, disk cloning software, a modern looking control panel, and software to change the drives sector size. Sabrent also backs this drive with a 5-year warranty if you register drive.

If you are looking for a PCI Express 4.0 drive and want the best bang for the buck the Sabrent Rocket 4.0 is most certainly the way to go right now. It is the most affordable of any Phison E16 based drive on the market, is backed by a fair warranty length, and it comes with all the software you’ll ever need.

The Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 series is our top recommendation for those looking for a PCI Express 4.0 drive!
