1080P Game Performance with Twitch Streaming

Something new that we’ll be testing out for the very first time is CPU performance while gaming at 1080P when using streaming to services like Twitch from the same PC with OBS software.

We fired up OBS 23.2.1 and streamed our Twitch channel at 1080P 60FPS with the software X264 option at 6000 Kbps. This put an additional strain on the system drops the average frame rate by roughly 15-20% on most of the processors we tested.

We wanted to put even more stress on the system, so in addition to streaming to Twitch we also recorded the gamplay to the system as an MKV file using the Indistinguishable Preset and the x264 software encoder once again.

Here we discovered that the average frame rate of the game dropped by roughly 30-40% as a result of both streaming to Twitch and recording our gaming session to our local drive.

The biggest shock to us is that the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X was very competitive with the Intel Core i9-9900K and even had a higher FPS average on Rainbow Six: Siege. AMD has
