CrystalDiskMark 7.0.0h x64

CrystalDiskMark is a small benchmark utility for drives and enables rapid measurement of sequential and random read/write speeds. Note that CDM only supports Native Command Queuing (NCQ) with a queue depth of 32 (as noted) and shows the highest score of five runs.

CystalDiskMark:

Crucial X6 4TB CrystalDiskMark Peak

Benchmark Results: The Crucial X6 4TB Portable SSD topped out at 822.55 MB/s read and 726.39 MB/s write. Crucial rates this drive as being offering speeds up to 800 MB/s.

Crucial X6 4TB CrystalDiskMark Peak Sequential

Benchmark Results: When compared to the other leading portable SSDs on the market right now, the Crucial X6 4TB was found to be faster than the SATA based portable SSDs, but slower than the other NVMe based models. This landed it in about the middle of the performance chart against nearly two dozen other USB external drives that we have tested on this specific AMD X570 test platform.

Crucial X6 4TB CrystalDiskMark Real

Benchmark Results: With the queue depth lowered to just one the performance went down a bit and we topped out at 528.83 MB/s read and 777.36 MB/s write. This is is a bit more realistic than testing a portable drive at a queue depth of 8.

Benchmark Results: Almost all of the drives get less performance at QD1 and this is expected. The write speed at QD1 is most impressive on the Crucial X6 4TB, but the read speed was lower than we anticipated.

AJA System Test

AJA System Test:

AJA System Test by AJA Video Systems measures system disk performance using video test files of different resolutions, sizes and codecs. We selected the standard 4K UltraHD resolution, a test file size of 1GB and the ProRes 4444 codec to see how this drive does with regard to video rendering performance. ProRes 4444 is used for heavy effects work and deep color projects. We changed the default test file size from 1GB to 16GB to better represent real-world usage. The results from this benchmark help content creators with regards to rendering expectations, throughput, file read/write expectations for transfers and that kind of thing.

Benchmark Results: The AJA System Test results showed the Crucial X6 4TB external drive was capable of averaging 797 MB/s read and 784 MB/s write. The capture performance (disk writes) has some performance drops down to around 200 MB/s during the duration of the test.

Blackmagic Disk Speed Test

Blackmagic Design has a storage drive benchmarking tool that customers can use to test the speed of your disk performance for working with high quality video at different resolutions and codecs.

Crucial X6 4TB DiskSpeedTest

Benchmark Results: The Crucial X6 4TB drive topped out at around 682 MB/s read and 742 MB/s write on Disk Speed Test by Blackmagic. These scores are high enough to get passing scores in all but two 4K formats (10 Bit YUV 4:2:2) that Blackmagicdesign tests for!
