Impressions & Conclusion

Initial Impressions

Initial impressions with this device had me quite ecstatic: a full featured UI, many features, and a sleek design. With plugging in my Sleek Audio SA1’s to the device I was pleasantly surprised with this device out of the box and its menus, setup, and sound.

Builds Quality

I have some mixed feelings with this device when it comes to build quality; the Fuze+ is made out of a cheap feeling plastic, though it’s also very light. The entire shell is also glossy which can lead this device to being a fingerprint magnet. Honestly, this will be my biggest gripe with the device and should be considered by SanDisk as an option to change. Glossy almost never looks good over time.

Audio Quality

Here’s where the Sansa Fuze+ shines: for a budget Media Player on the market, it has better sound quality than most budget devices on the market and really has a clear output without any extra noise.
Mids and Highs were vibrant, with bass just a tad shallow but still overall a good quality sound from this device.

Video & Picture Quality

The QVGA Screen of the Fuze+ is fairly good for a small device. Even though it has a low resolution it never looks dull or overshadowed by one color with tint problems. Pictures can take a moment to load but get fit to the screen very easily without any distortion even though they need to be downsized to fit on the screen.

It would be nice to see a zoom option on photos. That is just a minor quip, though.

Radio Quality

The Radio on the Sansa Fuze+ is up to snuff with what I’ve come to expect and it easily matches previous experiences with the original Fuze and higher priced devices in the market like the Zune devices from Microsoft.

The only thing I would have liked to have seen on this device is song tagging when using the radio as it already supports the display of station names, song & artist names, etc. This is a small gripe that could be easily added with a future firmware revision.

Legit Bottom Line: SanDisk has been in the MP3 Player Market for years now and has made a great little device when it comes to audio quality and user interface (though it is glossy); it is an excellent value at $74 at the time of writing.
