Patriot Torqx 128GB MLC SSD Review

HD Tune v3.50

HD Tune Pro 3.50 is an extended version of HD Tune which includes many new features such as: write benchmark, secure erasing, AAM setting, folder usage view, disk monitor, command line parameters and file benchmark.

HD Tune 3.50 Read

Benchmark Results: Again, the average read results are excellent and I got consistent readings every time I ran it. It falls below the specifications of the drive at 260MB/s and never really got close in this benchmark at any point in the benchmark. Although it is obscured on the image, the CPU utilization was -1%.

HD Tune 3.50 Write

Benchmark Results: For the write test, you can see the nice even pattern averaging around 208MB/s which is well above the specification of 180MB/s and actually peaked at 222.2MB/s. Between the two, I’d much rather have writes exceeding specifications than the reads because writes are where you see the biggest slowdowns on SSDs. Again, CPU utilization was -1% and average access times were a zippy 0.1ms.

HD TUNE CHART

Comparison Chart: Again, the Torqx bests the bunch in reads but not by much. Burst speed leads the pack as well and writes are second only to the SLC Vertex drive.

64MB File Test

HD Tune 3.50 File Bench

Benchmark Results: The file benchmark test gives a pretty good indication of real world performance and as you can see, reads still fall below spec but writes near 200MB/s which is very good to see.
