HD Tach is a low level hardware benchmark for random access read/write storage devices such as hard drives, removable drives (ZIP/JAZZ), flash devices, and RAID arrays. HD Tach uses custom device drivers and other low level Windows interfaces to bypass as many layers of software as possible and get as close to the physical performance of the device possible.

Testing of the USB3 was done using the SUNBEAMTECH Airbox USB3.0 External Hard Drive Enclosure. The hard drive used was a Western Digital 640Gb Black Edition Hard drive.

Benchmark Results: The GIGABYTE GA-X58-USB3 has average read speeds that are as fast as our other top performing boards. The average write speeds of the GIGABYTE GA-X58-USB3 was only exceeded by the performance of the ASUS Sabertooth X58. Though it was only edged out by .8%, and the burst speed was the fastest to date!

HD Tune Pro 4.01 is an extended version of HD Tune which includes
many new features such as write benchmark, secure erasing, AAM setting,
folder usage view, disk monitor, command line parameters and file
benchmark.

Benchmark Results: The GIGABYTE GA-X58-USB3 and the ASUS Sabertooth X58 once again are battling for the top spot in HD Tune. Average read was 90.4MB/s for both boards, and the average write shows the GIGABYTE GA-X58-USB3 with a .1MB/s lead.
