Corsair, Crucial, G.SKILL and Kingston are all are demonstrating their latest dual-channel DDR4 memory kits for the Intel Z170 platform at the IDF2015. Not all the companies were showing off their fastest kit, but G.SKILL most certainly was and they were showing off both their DDR4 4133 MHz and 4266 MHz memory kits on the show floor.

G.Skill DDR4 4266 MHz Memory Kit

G.SKILL plans on bringing these kits to market, but the quantities will be limited as not too many kits are able to run at such high speeds. Both kits are in the G.Skill Trident Z series, which is a product line aimed at overclockers and enthusiasts.

We are truly excited to demo such extremely high memory speed on live demo systems, since DDR4 4000+MHz speeds were traditionally only achievable under extreme overclocking on liquid nitrogen cooling, says Frank Hung, Product Marketing at G.SKILL. We see amazing performance potential for the new DDR4 memory technology on the newest Intel platform, and very excited to see where it will take us in the near future.

4266mhz memory

G.SKILL used an Intel Core i7-6700K processor and ASRock Z170 OC Formula overclocking motherboard for the DDR4-4266 demo. The 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4-4266 kit was running 19-25-25-45 timings with a 2T command rate at 1.40V. Note that the tRFC was set to 660 clocks. G.SKILL was not running any benchmarks on the kit, so we don’t have any insane 50+ GB/s memory bandwidth scores to show you!

The G.SKILL DDR4 4133MHz memory kit was also being shown on an Intel Core i7-6700K ‘Skylake’ processor, but this time they were using an ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero motherboard. The general memory timings were the same as the DDR4-4266 kit, but the tRFC was lowered from 660 clocks to 450 clocks.

We are sure that the memory bandwidth is impressive, but our recent DDR4 memory scaling article showed that there aren’t too many real world benefits from running DDR4 memory this fast!
