Gigabyte GP-MP8000 Gaming Mouse Pad

The Gigabyte GP-MP8000 Gaming Mouse Pad is currently available for $20.98 shipped and comes to $15.98 after rebate. This pad is very large and luxurious for those who have the table space to accommodate it, but you cannot change the fact that it is cloth, which does not go well with the M8000X mouse. The M8000X’s surface-sensing laser is actually the downfall here, because in use in the First-Person shooter Team Fortress 2, I experienced sharp drops in tracking where the mouse would just stop tracking entirely until aggressively moved in one direction or another. The M8000X’s tracking is quite jittery in general with the cloth pad as well, as dense and high quality as it may be for a cloth pad. This was not experienced at all with the Razer Destructor which provides flawless tracking 100% of the time with the M8000X.

Under the Razer Deathadder Mouse (@1800dpi), this loss of tracking quality was not seen, and tracking was in fact quite good and not jittery at all. I am surprised by the lack of time put into the GP-MP8000 as far as testing with the M8000X as they could have easily changed the material used in place of dense cloth so the high end sensor would work more effectively, but again this is a $10 after rebate pad. I’m not entirely sure how many people would pay more for a hard surface mouse pad, I just know I would as the mouse/mat combination is proven to be the most important factor in competitive gaming.

The mouse pad itself has no flaws, and in fact does prove to have great tracking performance with nearly any other mouse on the market which does not use
the AVAGO 9500 material sensing laser due to its limitations with cloth surfaces. The pad is very large, is aesthetically pleasing to those who don’t mind a logo (I personally like it) and is comfortable for long gaming sessions because of its 4mm thickness and a very soft sub-surface.

I would definitely recommend the Gigabyte GP-MP8000 mouse pad to anyone who is looking for a large pad and only has ~$10 to spend but also does not have a mouse with the AVAGO 9500 Laser.

Gigabyte M8000X Gaming Mouse

The Gigabyte M8000X Extreme Gaming Mouse can be found for a common price of $59.99 like most high end mice. After you add in shipping it which comes to $66.97. This mouse comes packed with features, including a record resolution of 6000dpi, a surface sensing Pro-Laser and 7 buttons with a total of 9 programmable ones. With countless other features, this stealthy-looking gaming mouse is one to consider for any gamer.

The M8000X has a very high end feel, is very comfortable, and offers stellar tracking performance for the most precise applications. After many hours of use both in-game and at the desktop, I have only found two flaws. The first flaw was mentioned above, in that the surface sensing laser has trouble with cloth mouse pads due to the extreme accuracy that it provides. The second thing that I have run into is the scroll wheel, in that after roughly the first 30hrs of use is starts firming up, getting hard to spin and starts squeaking badly. The problem lies in its lubrication, and can easily be fixed temporarily by using it very heavily rolling it back and forth for a few seconds. This quick fix only lasts for about 10hrs. I have yet to take the mouse apart to look at how the wheel is attached and if it can be repaired permanently with better grease, but I will update in the forum post when I do.

The GHOST engine software is the simplest software bundle I have used, yet offers more options by far with an easy to understand and easy to read layout. I also think the variety of colors for the top GHOST logo is a feature that more companies would adopt as if you have a theme for your PC often you are limited on mouse choices by the LED colors alone (though not everyone is that picky, most are), which is clearly not an issue with the Gigabyte M8000X.

The Gigabyte M8000X is a very clean looking mouse, and will remain so. With a laser as a tracking device, all gamers know this will likely never require cleaning throughout its life cycle, unlike the old ball mouse which needed to be cleaned every few days of use. The skin atop the mouse stays clean day in and day out even with many hours of use per day, and even the ‘Sticky-resistance rubber’ side grips remained clean throughout use so far.

With record breaking resolution, innovative technology in the GHOST Engine and Pro-Laser sensor and an outstanding ergonomic feel, the Gigabyte M8000X is a great looking mouse at an industry standard price of $60. You can frag for days with perfectly smooth and accurate tracking at any imaginable dpi resolution from less than 100 to 6030 with customizable resolution quick switches. Walking up to a LAN with this mouse, your competition will know you mean business because there is really nothing like the Gigabyte M8000X in terms of features, performance and the appearance of a Stealth fighter. The braided nylon USB cable is also a nice feature as it never kinks or even twists and looks great as well as offering very good connectivity with the gold plated connector.

Legit Bottom Line: Overall, the Gigabyte GHOST M8000X Gaming Mouse is easily the best mouse I have used to date. From features to aesthetics and to feel and comfort, it cannot be beat at $60.
