Zynga Decides To Add Bitcoin As Payment Option
For those of you who are into the myriad of games that Zynga has produced and released, there is now a new option for all the micro transactions that they thrive off of – bitcoin. This will probably be seen as a big step towards increasing the legitimacy of bitcoin as a viable currency as well. Evidence of that was shown by the value of bitcoin jumping to $1093 per coin. However, it has since dropped back down to $955.60 per coin.
Zynga announced this on Reddit by saying in part,”In response to Bitcoins rise in popularity around the world, Zynga, with help from BitPay, is testing expanded payment options for players to make in-game purchases using Bitcoin. The Bitcoin test is only available to Zynga.com players playing FarmVille 2, CastleVille, ChefVille, CoasterVille, Hidden Chronicles, Hidden Shadows and CityVille”.
It will be interesting to see how Zynga can cope with the ever fluctuating prices of bitcoin. However, if they can do it successfully then it will be interesting to see where bitcoin goes in the future in respect to online transactions. On a side note, I am still kicking myself for not buying at least a few bitcoins on release and seeing where they went. Just think of all the things I could have bought for FarmVille 2 by now!
