VIA reportedly to focus on own-brand chipsets

With Intel’s 1333MHz FSB (front side bus) patent license renewal still not yet settled, VIA Technologies has been rumored to be planning to quit the chipset business. However, according to PC makers with close ties with VIA, the company will not quit the chipset business and instead will switch its focus from third party chipsets to chipsets for its own C7 processor platform.

VIA is currently preparing to put less resources in the development of third party chipsets and put more focus on its own-brand C7 processor platform chipset, noted the sources, adding that the company will head towards multimedia control, commercial embedded (thin clients, industrial PCs and point of sale terminals), home multimedia and mobile embedded (ultra-mobile devices, set-top boxes, LCD TVs and car electronics) market, noted the sources.
