Inside The Ultra UPS

If you were one of those kids that took everything apart for no reason other than to see what is inside you’ll understand why I took a look inside no questions asked. Not knowing what the inside of a UPS looks like I found what I expected to be on the inside, batteries. After removing the cover on the 2000 VA 1200W Backup UPS w/ AVR we found that the unit contained two batteries, a pair of printed circuit boards and the transformer.

One of the features of the this Ultra UPS is it’s ability to regulate the power signal going to the computer thanks to Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR). This is useful when brown outs occur (when voltage dips below 90 Volts) and they seem to be increasing all the time. During a brownout the UPS will switch to battery mode for the duration of the brown out to ensure the computer is getting clean and steady voltage (between 110V-120V).

Some of our readers like to know what capacitors are on the inside as in years past many capacitors have failed over time. This unit uses Teapo capacitors and a transformer from Chuan Shun Electric Industrial (Huizhou) Co Ltd.
