Running XBMC on the $99 Ouya Game Console

By

An Ouya Android gaming console developer by the name of Nathan Betzen has uploaded a video that demonstrates XBMC on the upcoming NVIDIA Tegra 3 powered console. He says that he is impressed with the consoles overall performance, but then again he better be since he helped develop it right? The video isn’t all positive though as he did encounter dropped frames in the playback of videos encoded with the Divx/Xvid codec. He noted that the libstagefright playback library was not being used for decoding and that explains why Mpeg4 Divx/Xvid encoded video was dropping frames during playback. If you are curious about the Ouya Android console w/ XBMC be sure to watch the entire video below as it is interesting and informative!

Ouya gave a few of us XBMC Team members the chance to show off their console at SCALE 2013. After SCALE was over, I took the time (with the help of my niece Aly) to record some video of the Ouya running XBMC and performing fantastic hardware decoding.
