Rumor: Intel might sell memory chip unit

By

It is rumored that Intel has separated their memory and processor production, which is making some industry analysts believe that Intel might spin something off. Since Intel isn’t going to spin off their processor line anytime soon some are thinking that they might kick the memory portion of the blue chip giant.

Intel Corp., the world’s largest semiconductor maker, separated the production of memory chips from other processors, signaling the company might be preparing to jettison its memory unit. The changes could be a precursor to a spin-off or sale of the money-losing business as part of CEO Paul Otellini’s plan to slash $1 billion in costs.
