Rumor: Gigabyte Prepares 36 NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 Video Card Models

By

We’ve been following the rumors about the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 over the past several weeks and it looks like it is going to be an interesting mainstream graphics card. The card purportedly features the TU106 ‘Turing’ GPU with 1920 CUDA cores and up to 6GB of GDDR6 memory. With all the leaks it wouldn’t shock us if NVIDIA were to have a number of good GeForce announcements at their CES 2019 press conference. NVIDIA CEO Kensen Huang will make a number of announcements during the NVIDIA CES 2019 press conference that takes place Sunday, Jan 6th, 2019 at 8PM PT.

One of the more interesting rumors of late for the RTX 2060 is that it will be available with a wide range of memory configurations. Our friends over at VideoCardz believe that the RTX 2060 will be available with 3GB, 4GB and 6GB memory capacities in either GDDR5 (hopefully GDDR5X) or GDDR6. This news actually isn’t too crazy though as the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 was refreshed a number of times and was fitted with 3GB, 5GB and 6GB of memory (GDDR5 & GDDR5X) over the years. Seeing 3GB of memory on a new mainstream graphics card in 2019 is disappointing, but we’ll have to test one out before hating on it. Not all graphics cards are destined to gaming PCs, so maybe there is enough demand for a card of this class with less memory to lower the price point one can be bought at.

What does seem a bit crazy to us is news of a Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) filing by Gigabyte that lists 36 different GeForce RTX 2060 cards that they might be bringing to the market. It seems that they are preparing to bring a GDDR5 as well as a GDDR6 version of every model that they have created to the market.

The rumor mill says the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 should be about as fast as a GeForce GTX 1080 and cost around $350 USD. A leaked performance chart that we came across by Igor shows that the RTX 2060 scores 7,523 points, but doesn’t show how much or what type of RAM is being run on the RTX 2060 card.

Is that unrealistic? We can’t wait to find out and hopefully we’ll get all the answers at CES 2019!
