Rosewill Capstone 750W Power Supply Review

Testing results (Efficiency, Noise & Thermal)

We did expect high efficiency from
an 80Plus Gold certified unit but we certainly did not expect Rosewill’s
Capstone 750W to display such stability. Even when powered from an 110VAC
source, the Capstone maintains an efficiency of over 90% across most of its
capacity range, losing the 80Plus Platinum certification only because it will
not meet the requirements at half load.

Due to the very high efficiency, the
running temperatures of the Rosewill Capstone 750W power supply are very low,
although neither better nor worse than what most other products with a similar
efficiency rating and output would achieve.

When it comes to acoustics, the 750W
version of the Capstone behaves much like any “run of the mill” 750W
power supply, with the fan speeding up almost linearly to the increase of the
load. The power supply is silent when loaded up to 60% capacity, at which point
the fan will become audible. However, the load will have to exceed 80% of the
unit’s capacity for the humming noise of the fan to reach levels which could be
potentially annoying for quiet hardware seekers.
