NVIDIA Takeover? Rumors Spread About Intel Buying NVIDIA

Stalk talk site Optionetics was the first to point out something was up when option trading increased. Now The Inq has picked up the story and added that the delayed release of products and lack of communication to the media might be a sign that it is indeed true. Thinking back to the ATI/AMD merger the same thing happened to ATI back then and ATI is just now getting back to the swing of things like good old times. Rumors of an Intel and NVIDIA merger also hit headlines in October of 2006, but they were found to be false.

Headquartered in Santa Clara, California, Nvidia is a technology company that specializes in programmable graphics processors. The companys processors are used in a variety of end products including workstations, notebook computers, PDAs, and cell phones. Nvidia employs more than 4,000 workers and had sales in excess of $3 billion last year. Shares trade on the NASDAQ under ticker symbol NVDA. On Monday, NVDA call options were active, with focus on the January options that expire two weeks from Friday. According to Briefing.com, the action follows talk of possible interest in Nvidia on the part of Intel (INTC). The chatter is stemming from a Beijing TV segment that suggested this [takeover] possibility, according to an intraday comment.
