Microsoft Releases PC Driver For Xbox One Controllers

By

Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, the Director of Programming for Xbox Live, announced the PC (Windows-only) driver release for Xbox One controllers on his blog today. Fans of PC controllers have been waiting for the driver, or using 3rd party utilities to compensate, since the release of the Xbox One as 360 controllers are hands-down the most widely supported controllers for PC games.

From Nelson’s blog post, here’s the new Xbox One controller being used on a Surface tablet.

Major Nelson made a point of mentioning that all games that have supported 360 controllers in the past are full forward-compatible with the One. While the drivers are not yet rolled into Windows Update, Hyrb is hosting installers for the drivers at the links below. Simply download the drivers, connect your Xbox One controller to your computer through a micro USB cable and youll be gaming in no time.

So far, no mention has been made pertaining to the release of a PC wireless dongle like we had for the 360 controllers, though it’s likely only a matter of time.
