Microsoft Promises to Bring More Games to Steam

Microsoft has announced something that will make PC gamers happy. It will be bringing more of the Xbox Game Studios games to Steam. Traditionally, the games have been offered only on the Microsoft Store. Steam is where the majority of PC gamers prefer to get their games, and Epic has found that players aren’t happy about exclusives for other game stores.

“Our intent is to make our Xbox Game Studios PC games available in multiple stores, including our own Microsoft Store on Windows, at their launch. We believe you should have choice in where you buy your PC games,” writes Xbox head Phil Spencer.

With most Microsoft first party games exclusive to the Microsoft Store, that also means they have been Universal Windows Apps. That has kept Microsoft’s games from being used with some popular mod tools. Microsoft will be opening the Win32 floodgates and putting games on Steam and the Microsoft Store in Win32 flavor reports PC Gamer.

“When I think about the role we play as a company to support and evolve gaming on Windows, its critical that we make decisions that reinforce the open nature of the PC, focusing on how best to unite players on all devices around the games they love,” Spencer wrote. “That philosophy will guide us as we introduce new ways to discover and play games on Windows.”
