Micron reportedly to cut capex for 2009, say sources
Following the announcement of DRAM production cuts by Elpida Memory and Powerchip Semiconductor Corporation (PSC) last week, Micron Technology also reportedly plans to slash its capital expenditure (capex) for 2009 to help stabilize the sagging DRAM market, industrial observers in Taiwan quoted sources at international institutional investors as saying.
According to the latest data from the institutional investors, Micron is expected to cut its capex for 2009 to US$750-1,500 million compared to US$1.5-2 billion as originally planned, said the industrial watchers. With regard to NAND flash, the industry observers also pointed out that Toshiba seemed to have reduced its shipments of NAND flash for this month, probably due to an increase in contract volumes received from clients as well as a delay in migration to a new process.
