iPhone 4 Burns Up: Apple Gives Customer the Runaround

By

A 51 year old Colorado woman who prefers to remain anonymous, has had her iPhone 4 burn up at around 6:30am in a cloud of acrid smoke during charging, while she was sleeping alone in a hotel room. “It was an awful, putrid smell, almost like you were ingesting plastic of some kind” she said. She was able to chuck the hot smoking wreck in the sink by picking it up with a laptop case.

The woman, understandably concerned about such a dangerous problem tried to get Apple to acknowledge this problem in public, but they just gave her the corporate runaround, so she went to Mashable instead. “Its so important for me to have people know about this,” she said. “Theyre giving me the classic corporate runaround, and I understand and respect that. But people knowing about this is the most important thing to me.” It’s not really clear why she should respect a company that treats her so shoddily. In the end, they gave her a replacement iPhone 4, not an iPhone 4s like she had asked. The new version would have made a nice goodwill gesture and made for good PR.

Had the combustion happened half an hour later, she said, she would have been in the shower with the sizzling, smoking phone blocking her path from the bathroom to the front door. Had it happened the night before, the phone would have been charging in another room in her mothers old house.

“Maybe Im naive,” she added, “but I really hate when companies have to wait for fatalities or something awful to happen before they do something.”
