Intel to close Jerusalem chip plant

Intel Corp. plans on closing its chip plant in Jerusalem and may sell its flash-memory activities at its Kiryat Gat plant in southern Israel, the Globes financial newspaper said on Tuesday. An Intel spokesman in Israel said the company does not respond to speculation.

If the flash-memory activities are sold in full, the price tag will be around $1.5 billion, on the basis of operating performance only and excluding debt, Globes said. TheMarker.com, the financial news website of the Haaretz newspaper, cited Intel sources as saying the flash memory activities would be sold to Franco-Italian chip maker STMicroelectronics
