Intel RealSense Tracking Camera T265 Uses V-SLAM Technology

By

Intel has opened up pre-orders for the Intel RealSense Tracking Camera T265. Intel has been making RealSense cameras for a number of years now, but this one aims at giving robots and automated machines a much better sense of their surroundings. The T265 is ideal in situations where GPS isn’t available or is unreliable as it uses inside-out tracking and doesn’t rely on any outside sensors thanks to next-generation V-SLAM technology. Intel went with the existing Intel Movidius Myriad 2 VPU for this Realsense camera and it needs just 1.5 Watts of power and a USB connection to get up and running. The T265 measures 108 x 25 x 13mm in size, weighs 55g and has two fish-eye lenses with close to a hemispherical 1635 field of view.

Understanding your environment is a critical component for many devices. The T265 was designed to complement our existing Intel RealSense Depth Cameras and provide a quick path to product development with our next-generation integrated V-SLAM technology. The Intel RealSense Tracking Camera T265 is clearly aimed at developers and will begin shipping February 28th at $199. Hopefully this will allow developers to help robots and drones to better navigate places without GPS! You can pre-order it here and also find out more information.
